Toastmasters has always been a well esteemed organization that practices and promotes the art of public speaking, leadership and knowledge sharing. With this vision set forth, the CAKE LABS Toastmasters Club kicked off its mock inaugural meeting this week at the Engineering Center. The CAKE LABS Toastmasters Club was idealized with the objective of teaching better communication and leadership skills. Initiated by CAKE LABS’ very own Ashaff Hussain, the CAKE LABS Toastmasters Club is guided by the Voice of Colombo Toastmasters Club who mentors over the former and its club activities.
The CAKE LABS Toastmasters Club consists of meetings done every fortnight. The tasks for the participant members are filling meeting roles and giving prepared or impromptu speeches. The CAKE LABS Toastmasters Club consists of an executive committee who oversees the meetings and club events which foster a learning culture among CAKEsters. The education system followed consists of two paths – the leadership track which focuses on building leadership skills by fulfilling a series of diverse roles specified in the leadership manual, and the communication track which focuses on oral communication skills.
Participation in Toastmasters comes with many advantages, especially with low-cost communication and leadership training through practical experience gained from the meetings. It helps build confidence and improve a variety of much needed soft skills needed to thrive in an agile environment. The in-house evaluation platform which Toastmasters provide ensures that participants are always pushed forward to perform better the next time they step onto the stage. In addition to that it also provides a good opportunity for networking.
