Leapset & MIT team up to empower budding SL entrepreneurs

by Sysco LABS Software Engineering 20 February 2014

This year Leapset got the chance to partner with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as they conducted the third annual Global Startup Labs program. A program MIT has executed worldwide, GSL looks to empower the latent talent in developing nations with the knowledge, support and networks they need to become successful tech entrepreneurs.

Although the Sri Lankan edition of the program is in its third year, the 2013 program is raising the stakes and taking GSL Sri Lanka to a whole new level. This time over 70 would be tech entrepreneurs got on board the 7 month course, the comprehensive content of which covers everything from ideation, networking, developing business plans and securing capital.

For us at Leapset, who were a budding startup not too long ago,  it’s been a privilege to be able to give back to the tech entrepreneur community, and to encourage and facilitate the move from consulting to new product development, in the local IT industry.

Leapset has been supporting the hopeful entrepreneurs through mentorship, brainstorming, idea refinement and particularly by sharing our insights into the restaurant, payment and retail spaces.

Shanil was also the keynote speaker at the first mentor session; giving the hopefuls tips on the value generating potential of disruptive startups.

One of the most interesting ideas came from this team, the inventors of a wireless laptop and mobile charger.
