Sysco LABS’ software engineering team is at the forefront of technology innovation in enterprise and customer-facing applications. The size and complexity of our product suite requires us to evaluate and utilize many of the latest tools, technologies and standards in the industry. 
We choose technologies that are a fit for our solutions, are supported by the community, and secure and scalable enough for enterprise. We also use a wide range of cloud computing solutions from AWS, Azure and GCP, and build cloud-native solutions to cater to the high scale, reliability, and resilience of enterprise solutions. These include elastic computing solutions using containerizations, high performance open-source databases in the cloud, cloud-based DevSecOps tools etc.

The security of digital solutions is of paramount importance to Sysco, and we treat security as an umbrella activity that spans from requirements to production and beyond. Our engineers stay up-to-date on cyber security practices, secure coding practices, implementation and maintenance of secure infrastructure and runtimes.

- Working collaboratively in a cross-functional team in an Agile delivery environment 
- Adhering to DevOps principles and be involved in projects throughout their full software lifecycle: from development, QA, and deployment, to post-production support 
 
## REQUIREMENTS 
 
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 4+ years of experience developing production grade enterprise applications 
- Extensive experience with the Java/Spring-Boot stack, along with hands-on knowledge on RESTful APIs, microservices, performance optimizations, enterprise integration principles and modern deployment strategies (containerization principles) 
- An in-depth understanding of relational databases, schema design and SQL optimization; knowledge of NoSQL databases would be an added advantage 
- Familiarity with Linux based systems, DevOps practices and prior experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred). 
- Familiarity with data streaming concepts and related toolsets (Kafka) 
- Excellent communication skills 
- The ability to work well with a team and lead/groom junior members as required (in an informal capacity) 
- A decent knowledge of front-end development (React/Redux stack) will be advantageous, in addition to an openness to learning front end skills quickly and contributing towards the team’s cause

Extensive experience with modern deployment strategies and container technologies (Docker and Kubernetes) 

An in-depth understanding of relational databases, schema design and SQL optimization 

Knowledge of NoSQL databases would be an added advantage 

Familiarity with data streaming concepts and related frameworks (Kafka, Apache Beam, Flink) would be an added advantage 

Experience in architecting, designing, and implementing highly available, scalable web applications

Quality Engineering

At Sysco LABS, we take a holistic approach to quality engineering. Not limited to merely testing our products at the end of the development lifecycle, our quality engineers engage in all stages of the development process and are an integral part of our engineering teams rather than an outside entity.
 
 
Just like our products, our quality process is under continuous improvement. QE involvement in the development process begins at its inception - we perform a detailed analysis and elaboration of the feature requirements outlined by business analysts. In this sense, our quality engineers are domain experts to an extent.
 
 
Quality engineers are the driving force of software quality in our engineering teams. They often discuss the detailed requirements with developers in feature walkthrough meetings to ensure everyone is on the same page, and that the product and test suite arise from the same requirement source. This minimizes the likelihood of test-product mismatches, an all too common problem in the software industry.

While tests are considered common assets (the entire team has access to them and are expected to utilize them in their work), it is the QEs who develop and maintain the test suites. Despite the size and complexity of our product suite, 70-90% of our testing is automated. This eliminates much of the day-to-day drudgery of the traditional quality engineer, freeing their minds to focus on product quality in a more intelligent manner.

Technology Operations

Technology Operations forms the operational backbone of Sysco IT services and infrastructure. These teams work on multiple disciplines including Incident, Problem and Change Management, Enterprise Monitoring, Site Reliability Engineering and Operations Engineering that primarily looks after technical support. In our brand-new Technology Operations Command Center, teams operate on a 24x7 basis supporting multiple geographies and ensuring Sysco’s global operations continue running smoothly and reliably.

The Problem Management function is essential to eliminate recurring incidents. As part of the team, you will be working with technology teams to identify the root cause of incidents and what actions can be taken to avoid similar incidents in the future.

- Providing reactive support through troubleshooting of technical issues, unblocking users and detecting root cause(s) based on SLAs

## RESPONSIBILITIES

Configuring and managing Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices to ensure optimal performance and security 

Providing support for end-user devices, troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues across the company, and serving as a subject matter expert

Assisting with purchasing new equipment following proper guidelines, repair parts related to computer, workstation, and office hardware and accessories; Maintaining reliable “Hot Spare” Laptop/Desktop systems and assisting with hardware relocation when required 

Providing remote support to users 

Managing hardware/software vendor relationships and contract negotiations 

Maintaining and adhering to cybersecurity policy, and ensuring client agents for discovery tools, security, and patch compliance agents are maintained at the most current versions

## REQUIREMENTS 
 
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent; MSc or relevant post graduate qualifications will be an added advantage 
- 5+ years of experience in similar capacity for the associate tech lead position and 7+ years of experience for the tech lead position 
- Advanced certifications on one or many of the leading cloud vendors including Google cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft Azure and a solid understanding of their services

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development (Web applications) who is also willing to learn and support other areas of Private Cloud infrastructure operations. This role will involve a balanced mix of software development and operational support, with 60% of the responsibilities dedicated to developing and maintaining web applications (web tools developed to manage infrastructure and other operational aspects within the Infrastructure Operations team), and the other 40% focused on infrastructure and operational management. The Infrastructure Operations Team is a globally distributed group responsible for managing Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure and supporting Windows and Linux workloads across North American datacenters and edge locations. Operating 24/7 with members in Sri Lanka and Costa Rica, the team ensures high availability, scalability, and performance of enterprise systems in Sysco’s Private Cloud. Key responsibilities include managing virtualization platforms, optimizing Linux and Windows servers, and maintaining global security compliance through patch management. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Lead/Associate Technical Lead to join our Infrastructure Operations team. The role involves supporting, optimizing, and securing Windows systems, contributing to global OS patch management efforts, managing and supporting the Nutanix virtualization platform, and collaborating with a globally distributed team in a 24x7 operational environment. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux system administration, a good understanding of virtualization technologies such as Nutanix or VMware, and experience with automation and patch management processes.  

## RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing technical guidance and mentorship to Windows engineers in a 24/7 operational environment. Lead incident response and resolution efforts, ensuring minimal downtime 

Managing, monitoring, and maintaining Windows workloads running on virtualized infrastructure; troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to Windows systems and applications, and optimizing system performance, resource utilization, and scalability 

Overseeing Windows deployments on Private Cloud virtualization platforms; collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between infrastructure and business needs, and assisting in capacity planning, backups, and disaster recovery strategies 

Implementing and managing global patching for Windows servers to address security vulnerabilities and system stability; ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and industry best practices, and conducting risk assessments and applying mitigations for security threats 

Supporting the migrations of end-of-life Windows OS versions to newer versions of Windows operating systems and reducing the EOL footprint 

Developing and maintaining automation scripts for routine tasks using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools; integrating and improving patching automation workflows 

Supporting and managing the Nutanix virtualization platform, including new cluster deployments, troubleshooting alerts, and optimization of the infrastructure 

Working closely with team members in Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, and North America to provide seamless 24x7 support; participating in on-call rotations and responding to high-priority incidents 
 
## REQUIREMENTS 
 
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with 5+ years in Windows system administration 

Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy 

Hands-on experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) like Nutanix and virtualization technologies (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V) 

Proficiency in patch management tools (e.g., WSUS, SCCM) and vulnerability management processes 

Strong knowledge of Windows OS roles/features (IIS, Print & File Services, Remote Desktop, etc.), TCP/IP, firewalls, and high availability systems (e.g., failover clusters) 

Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Perl) and technical documentation of infrastructure processes 

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment 

Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multicultural team setting 

Familiarity with ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management 

The willingness to work 24x7 shifts in a dynamic, fast-paced setting

## RESPONSIBILITIES

Researching, evaluating and recommending DevOps tools in multiple technologies for multiple development teams 

Deploying, automating, maintaining and managing AWS cloud-based production systems, to ensure the availability, performance, scalability and security of productions systems 

Building, releasing and configuration management of production systems that need to be supported 24* 7 uptime 

Ensuring critical system security using the best-in-class cloud security solutions 

Coaching development teams in DevOps practices and guiding the team to implement effective DevOps 

Working collaboratively in a cross-functional team in an Agile delivery environment 

Being involved in projects throughout their full software lifecycle: from development, QA, and deployment, to post-production support 
 
## REQUIREMENTS 
 
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent, and 6+ years of experience in DevOps 

Strong knowledge of AWS cloud computing and AWS DevOps tools 

Strong knowledge in fundamental DevOps tools such as AWS DevOps tools, Terraform, Jenkins, GoCD, GitHub, Nagios, Chef etc. 

Strong knowledge on containerization of software packages using solutions such as Dockerization, Kubernetes, AWS ECS, AWS Fargate, etc. 

Hands-on experience designing, developing, testing and troubleshooting DevOps tools in production systems. 

The ability to adhere to engineering standards, best practices; must be process-oriented 

Strong communication skills – reading & comprehending documents/specifications, producing clear and thorough documentation, with the ability to discuss and explain technical issues during meetings 

1+ years of experience with one of the dynamic object-oriented programing languages like Groovy, Ruby or Python; experience with a programming language like Java, C#, Node.js or JavaScript and related web frameworks will be an added advantage
