THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently on the lookout for a Senior Engineer – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure to join our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhering to the Windows desktop images standards, deployment methods and use of supporting tools and technologies: Infrastructure – storage, networking, servers, load balancing, etc.; Anti-virus and Profile management
- User experience monitoring, Single Sign On, Performance troubleshooting and Endpoint management (thin clients, mobile devices, PCs, etc.)
- Application deployment and virtualization
- Meeting key performance indicators for infrastructure, user experience, applications, storage, servers, and network components related to VDI and escalating outcomes appropriately
- Identifying issues proactively using the required tools
- Working on automating system procedures and processes to evolve the technology in the organization
- Contributing to the knowledge base for troubleshooting and maintaining the environment
- Providing documentation, processes and technical training to service desk and administrator level team members
- Developing and maintaining O&S Standard Operating Procedures for VDI Environment
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with PCs, software, communications devices within established procedures and responding to end user requests for technical support and assistance
- Providing support and assistance to System Administrator(s), Network Engineer(s) and Telecommunications Systems staff in the delivery of End User support and Systems Maintenance; Ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures
- Participating in the development and implementation of VDI-related operational procedures and standards
- Collaborating on the evaluation of vendor hardware, software, and services to recommend purchases; Interfacing with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during network outages or periods of reduced performance
- Managing and supporting VMware virtual environments with a focus on high availability and scalability of architectures
- Maintaining detailed and organized documentation for VDI solutions, processes, troubleshooting, and procedures; Planning and maintaining the VDI environment utilizing VMware Horizon best practices
- Conducting in-person and virtual training sessions for end users on collaboration applications
- Documenting enterprise collaboration solutions as needed using tools such as Visio, Excel, and/or Word to depict physical and logical associations and integrations
- Ensuring vendor-managed system upgrades are coordinated and implemented properly
- Participate in the design and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing solutions
- Analyzing incidents, identifying root causes, and providing solutions for system issues
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of IT server administrative-related experience in maintaining and supporting a large virtual server and desktop environment
- Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
- Hands-on experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NTFS, and management desired, but not required.
- Experience in ADFS, AD Connect, Certificate management and Group Policies
- Functional knowledge of VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere, EMC VNX, Cisco UCS, Microsoft, VMC on AWS, VMC on Azure, Windows Operating Systems and Windows as a Service, are desired.
- Strong knowledge in design, implementation, troubleshooting of complex XenApp and Xen Desktop production environments
- Good knowledge of Windows 10, Windows 2016, Windows 2019, PowerShell scripting and automation of monitoring/operational tasks
- Working experience with TCP/IP and network troubleshooting with basic tools such as traceroute, speed tests, and bandwidth reports
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills to effectively execute tasks in a high- pressure environment
- Highly organized and able to maintain meticulous and consistent documentation of incidents, processes, and resolutions
- Resourceful with creative problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent customer service skills complimented by an ability to effectively interpret and respond to customers’ issues
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate and provide technical support to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience working in a collaborative and ever-changing technical environment
- The ability to establish rapport and provide cross-training to team members
- Experience and desire to work in a global delivery environment
- Working knowledge of DoD STIGs or NIST 800-53 or CIS hardening standards
- Experience packaging and deploying gold images, desktop pools, patches and applications
- Experience with Thin Client monitoring, upgrading and troubleshooting
- Experience with assessing complete IT inventories and utilization and developing plans for consolidation and optimization.
- Experience with IT infrastructure inclusive of server, storage, network, database, systems, DR/business recovery and continuity practices, storage, compute, and virtualization knowledge
- Experience with VDI and Thin Client system patching and compliance
