THE OPPORTUNITY
The Infrastructure Operations Team is a globally distributed group responsible for managing Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure and supporting Windows and Linux workloads across North American datacenters and edge locations. Operating 24/7 with members in Sri Lanka and Costa Rica, the team ensures high availability, scalability, and performance of enterprise systems in Sysco’s Private Cloud. Key responsibilities include managing virtualization platforms, optimizing Linux and Windows servers, and maintaining global security compliance through patch management.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Lead/Associate Technical Lead to join our Infrastructure Operations team. The role involves supporting, optimizing, and securing Windows systems, contributing to global OS patch management efforts, managing and supporting the Nutanix virtualization platform, and collaborating with a globally distributed team in a 24x7 operational environment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux system administration, a good understanding of virtualization technologies such as Nutanix or VMware, and experience with automation and patch management processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing technical guidance and mentorship to Linux engineers in a 24/7 operational environment; leading incident response and resolution efforts, ensuring minimal downtime
Managing, monitoring, and maintaining Linux workloads running on virtualized Private Cloud infrastructure; troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to Linux systems and applications, and optimizing system performance, resource utilization, and scalability
Overseeing Linux deployments on Private Cloud virtualization platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between infrastructure and business needs; assisting in capacity planning, backups, and disaster recovery strategies
Implementing and managing global patching for Linux servers to address security vulnerabilities and system stability; ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and industry best practices, and conducting risk assessments and applying mitigations for security threats
Supporting the migrations of end-of-life Linux OS versions to newer versions of Linux operating systems and reducing the EOL footprint
Developing and maintaining automation scripts for routine tasks using Bash, Python, or similar tools; integrating and improving patching automation workflows
Supporting and managing the Nutanix virtualization platform, including new cluster deployments, troubleshooting alerts, and optimization of the infrastructure
Working closely with team members in Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, and North America to provide seamless 24x7 support; participating in on-call rotations and respond to high-priority incidents
REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience) with 5+ years in Linux system administration
Advanced knowledge of Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
Hands-on experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) like Nutanix and virtualization technologies (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V)
Proficiency in patch management solutions and processes
Knowledge of OS/kernel updates, vulnerability scanning, and remediation
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and VPNs
Awareness of Linux security practices, SELinux, and auditing tools
Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) and technical documentation of infrastructure processes
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multicultural team setting
Familiarity with ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management
